How this calculator works
The straight-time estimate applies the higher of the entered wage floor and $7.25 federal minimum, then multiplies hourly compensation by hours per week and weeks per year. Monthly pay is annual pay divided by 12. Selecting a state fills its wage floor, tipped cash-wage default, tip-credit permission and any additional spread requirement together. For tipped work, cash plus actual workweek tips must reach the applicable floor; any shortfall becomes illustrative employer make-up. States that prohibit a tip credit require the full floor in cash before tips. Hawaii’s extra $7 spread test is retained. These inputs do not establish FLSA coverage, qualifying occupation, required notice, tip-pool compliance, local rates, industry/employer-size tiers, dual-job hours or overtime. Hours are limited to 40. Actual compliance must be checked separately for each workweek under 29 U.S.C. §§203(m),206,218 and 29 C.F.R. §531.59.

Existing DOL table evidence was checked 2026-08-25; the underlying tipped-wage notes cite the July 1, 2026 revision. Florida’s recorded content change is 2026-10-03 for its September 30 step. Those dates are not a new check. Confirm operative rates and any later published changes with the labor authority before making a payroll decision.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are all $7.25 entries state-set minimum wages?
No. Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee have no state minimum-wage law. Georgia and Wyoming have $5.15 state statutes, while the higher federal floor controls for covered work. The table keeps those legal distinctions separate.
Is the tipped cash wage the worker’s total minimum pay?
No. Where a tip credit is permitted, it is the cash default before tips, and the employer must make up a workweek shortfall. Where a credit is prohibited, the full floor is paid in cash and tips are added. The table records occupation thresholds, special cash-wage scope and existing scheduled changes.
