Tennessee Unemployment Benefits Calculator
Estimate your Tennessee unemployment benefits. Max weekly: $325. Max weeks: 12-20, set by the state unemployment rate. Free calculator.
Estimate only — these are not official figures
The weekly benefit applies Tennessee's exact statutory formula, cited in the methodology and sources, so it matches the law when the wages you enter are accurate. The page is still labeled an estimate because its monthly figure (the weekly amount times 4.33) is not an amount the state pays and only the state agency can decide whether you qualify. The maximum weekly benefit ($325) and duration (12-20 weeks, set by the state unemployment rate) come from published sources.
Do not rely on these amounts for budgeting or payment. For exact amounts, check the Tennessee state unemployment insurance agency (file there and use its official benefits estimator for your actual Weekly Benefit Amount determination).

How This Calculator Works
Calculation methodology and assumptions
Tennessee pays your Weekly Benefit Amount (WBA) from a real statutory wage-bracket TABLE (Tenn. Code Ann. §50-7-301(b)), keyed to the AVERAGE wages paid in your 2 highest-earning base-period quarters (add those two quarter totals, then divide by 2). This calculator reproduces that table EXACTLY, not as an estimate: the table's 245 rows (spanning 7 successive amendments from 1992 through the current Aug. 5, 2001 revision) each raise the WBA by $1 per $26.00 step, which collapses to two linear formulas -- one for average quarterly wages up to $4,420.00 (anchored at the table's own $780.01 -> $55 minimum), and a second, separate one above that point (the two pieces are not continuous with each other; the 1993 amendment introduced a one-time jump from $194 to $220 at that exact boundary) -- capped at the table's current $325 maximum ("$7,150.01 and over"). Both formulas, and the boundary between them, match every row of the statutory table (checked row by row, zero mismatches). WBA is floored to the next lower whole dollar (§50-7-301(c)(3)). IMPORTANT DURATION DISCLOSURE: effective Dec. 1, 2023, Tennessee replaced its old wage-based total-benefit cap with a pure sliding scale tied to the state's OWN current average unemployment rate (12-20 weeks, §50-7-301(d)(2)) — this can no longer be derived from your wages at all, so this calculator asks for Tennessee's currently-published maximum-weeks-payable figure directly (defaulting to 12, the current floor); verify the live number with the TN Dept. of Labor & Workforce Development. Tennessee pays no dependent allowance.
Key State Information
Tennessee's maximum weekly UI benefit is $325, with a $55 minimum, computed from an exact reproduction of the state's real wage-bracket benefit table (not an estimate). There is no dependent allowance. Duration is set directly by Tennessee's current average unemployment rate (12-20 weeks) rather than by your wages, per a law that took effect Dec. 1, 2023.
Example Calculation
Let's review the inputs that set unemployment benefits in Tennessee.
Tennessee uses its own benefit formula from state law rather than a general 50%-of-wage estimate. Enter the exact quarter/base-period wage and eligibility fields requested by the calculator; the required inputs differ by state and cannot be reconstructed safely from median household income.
Result: Published maximum weekly amount: $325. Maximum duration: 12-20 weeks, set by the state unemployment rate. These are ceilings, not a typical award; the calculator above applies Tennessee's source-backed formula to your own wage history, and only the state agency determines eligibility.

Our editorial standardsFrequently Asked Questions
How much is unemployment in Tennessee?
Tennessee pays from a real wage-bracket table (Tenn. Code Ann. §50-7-301(b)), reproduced exactly here (not estimated) with a verified two-piece formula, floored at $55 and capped at $325/week. A worker whose 2 highest quarters average $6,500 would get $299/week.
Does Tennessee pay extra for dependents?
No. Tennessee UI does not pay a dependent allowance.
How long do Tennessee unemployment benefits last?
12 to 20 weeks, set directly by Tennessee's own current average unemployment rate (Tenn. Code Ann. §50-7-301(d)(2), effective Dec. 1, 2023) rather than by your wages — check the TN Dept. of Labor & Workforce Development for the currently published figure.
