How this calculator works
Start with the selected state’s NAIC average expenditure for 2023. The existing estimator adjusts that benchmark for age, vehicle value, coverage choice, accidents, credit where permitted, mileage and deductible. These adjustments are planning assumptions, not insurer rate filings. Credit has no effect in California, Hawaii, Massachusetts or Michigan in this model; the selected state code controls that rule. The liability-only setting is a pricing approximation: it does not establish legally sufficient coverage or add state-required PIP or uninsured-motorist coverage. Standard/full coverage portions use the existing NAIC countrywide mix. A personal quote depends on the insurer and risk details this tool does not capture.

State premium benchmarks and coverage qualifications
All 50 existing state-page averages and coverage answers. The standard example uses age 35, a $30,000 vehicle, no accidents, good credit, 12,000 miles and a $500 deductible. It is a model result, not a quote.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the state average a quote for my driver?
No. The NAIC average expenditure mixes policyholders, coverage limits and vehicles. It is a starting benchmark, not the price of a policy with your selected limits. Replace it with your own quote to explore the estimator’s assumptions.
Does liability-only mean the state legal minimum?
No. The estimator scales the premium but does not price statutory limits, PIP or other compulsory coverages separately. The requirements column preserves the existing state-page evidence and identifies limits that have not been independently confirmed. Kentucky’s retained page has its separate sourced PIP example.
