Louisiana Child Support Calculator
Planning estimate for Louisiana child support using a generic gross-income heuristic. Does not implement the state guideline or determine a court order.
Estimate only — these are not official figures
The calculation uses both gross incomes to apportion a generic child budget and the costs entered for care and insurance. The parent with fewer nights is the modeled payer; this does not implement Louisiana’s statutory support calculation. This tool does not implement the state guideline; none is an official guideline amount.
Do not rely on these amounts for budgeting or payment. For exact amounts, check the Louisiana Revised Statutes §9:315.19: https://legis.la.gov/Legis/Law.aspx?d=107402.

How This Calculator Works
Calculation methodology and assumptions
The calculation uses both gross incomes to apportion a generic child budget and the costs entered for care and insurance. The parent with fewer nights is the modeled payer; this does not implement Louisiana’s statutory support calculation. This tool does not implement the state guideline; none is an official guideline amount.
Key State Information
Income Shares guideline context: Louisiana Revised Statutes §9:315.25 permits either party in a support proceeding to raise custody or visitation issues; the court may decide them if all parties consent. The statute says the custody or visitation issue need not have been specifically pleaded for a party to raise it or for the court to decide it. This distinction concerns what may be brought before the court in the proceeding; entering an overnight count here does not ask a court to decide any issue. Consult the statute and the court handling the case for the procedural question. This calculator cannot resolve custody or visitation.
Example Calculation
Custody questions and a separate budget
At annual incomes of $58,000 and $32,000, two children, 220 nights with Parent 1, $4,800 care and $2,400 insurance, Parent 2’s proxy is $800.00 monthly.
Result: Using $48,000 and $36,000, one child, 165 nights, $3,600 care and $1,200 insurance gives Parent 1 $908.57 monthly. This is a planning figure, not a custody decision.
