Key State Information
Percentage of Income guideline context: Mississippi’s Department of Human Services explains that an enforceable arrangement requires a court-approved order or agreement. The agency cannot enforce an informal agreement. At a hearing, the court considers individual income and the legal guidelines; this proxy is not that hearing calculation.
Example Calculation
An informal budget versus an enforceable order
With annual gross incomes of $56,000 and $30,000, one child, 230 nights with Parent 1, $2,400 care and $1,800 insurance, the proxy assigns Parent 2 $547.09 monthly. It does not implement Mississippi’s percentage-of-income model.
Result: For $48,000 and $28,000, two children, 160 nights, $4,800 care and $1,200 insurance, Parent 1 is the modeled payer at $1,195.79 monthly. These amounts do not establish an order.
