West Virginia Unemployment Benefits Calculator
Estimate your West Virginia unemployment benefits. Max weekly: $662. Max weeks: 26. Free calculator.
Estimate only — these are not official figures
The weekly benefit applies West Virginia's exact statutory formula, cited in the methodology and sources, so it matches the law when the wages you enter are accurate. The page is still labeled an estimate because its monthly figure (the weekly amount times 4.33) is not an amount the state pays and only the state agency can decide whether you qualify. The maximum weekly benefit ($662) and duration (26 weeks) come from published sources.
Do not rely on these amounts for budgeting or payment. For exact amounts, check the West Virginia state unemployment insurance agency (file there and use its official benefits estimator for your actual Weekly Benefit Amount determination).

How This Calculator Works
Calculation methodology and assumptions
West Virginia uses wage classes, not half of your prior weekly pay. Under W. Va. Code 21A-6-10, the calculator finds your total base-period wages in WorkForce West Virginia's published benefit-rate table and returns that row's weekly rate. The current agency poster, WVUC-B-59 effective July 1, 2025, lists 404 classes: $2,200 through $2,349.99 pays $24, and $62,650 or more pays the $662 maximum. A regular benefit balance is 26 times that weekly rate. Section 21A-6-1(5) also tests whether more than one base-period quarter contains covered wages; the calculator checks that wage-quarter count and the $2,200 total. This is an estimate for total unemployment: partial earnings, pensions, the waiting week, disqualification and weekly work-search decisions are not calculated. Partial payments can spread the balance across more calendar weeks.
Key State Information
A West Virginia base-period total of $34,000 falls in class 213 and pays $360 weekly, with a $9,360 regular balance. At $40,150, class 254 pays $425, not the old $424 ceiling. The current agency table continues through class 404; higher wages do not stop at the earlier class-254 limit. Earning either amount in only one quarter fails the separate two-quarter wage test.
Example Calculation
Let's review the inputs that set unemployment benefits in West Virginia.
West Virginia uses its own benefit formula from state law rather than a general 50%-of-wage estimate. Enter the exact quarter/base-period wage and eligibility fields requested by the calculator; the required inputs differ by state and cannot be reconstructed safely from median household income.
Result: Published maximum weekly amount: $662. Current maximum duration: 26 weeks. These are ceilings, not a typical award; the calculator above applies West Virginia's source-backed formula to your own wage history, and only the state agency determines eligibility.

Our editorial standardsFrequently Asked Questions
Which wages determine the West Virginia benefit rate?
The agency table uses the total covered wages in your base period. It assigns a $150 wage band and a weekly amount; it does not apply a flat 50% replacement rate.
What is the smallest West Virginia monetary qualification?
At least $2,200 in covered base-period wages, with wages in two or more quarters, under 21A-6-1(5). Meeting that wage test does not decide separation or weekly eligibility.
Does West Virginia add $25 per dependent?
No dependent supplement is included in the 21A-6-10 wage-class table. This calculator returns the table amount and a dependent allowance of $0.
