Maryland Unemployment Benefits Calculator
Estimate your Maryland unemployment benefits. Max weekly: $430. Max weeks: 26. Free calculator.
Estimate only — these are not official figures
The weekly benefit applies Maryland's exact statutory formula, cited in the methodology and sources, so it matches the law when the wages you enter are accurate. The page is still labeled an estimate because its monthly figure (the weekly amount times 4.33) is not an amount the state pays and only the state agency can decide whether you qualify. The maximum weekly benefit ($430) and duration (26 weeks) come from published sources.
Do not rely on these amounts for budgeting or payment. For exact amounts, check the Maryland state unemployment insurance agency (file there and use its official benefits estimator for your actual Weekly Benefit Amount determination).

How This Calculator Works
Calculation methodology and assumptions
Maryland does not use a percentage of your pay. Labor & Employment §8-803(b) prints a schedule of 381 lines keyed to your highest-paid calendar quarter: line 1 covers $1,176.01 to $1,200.00 and pays $50 a week, every further $24 of quarter wages moves you one line and $1 higher, and line 381 ($10,296.01 and over) pays $430. This calculator reproduces that schedule exactly (each of the 381 rows was checked against the statute text). Column C of the schedule sets the wages you need in at least two quarters combined, 36 times the line's weekly amount (§8-802(2)); if your base period falls short, §8-803(a)(2) assigns the highest of the next 6 lower lines you do qualify for, and below that there is no benefit. Children under 16 you support add $8 a week each for up to 5 (§8-804), never above $430 in total. Maryland pays 26 times your weekly amount over the claim, plus the child allowance for each week paid (§8-808). The schedule in force on the first day of your benefit year applies to the whole year (§8-803(c)).
Key State Information
Maryland's weekly benefit runs from $50 to $430; the $430 top line is written into the statute's schedule rather than reset each year from an average wage. Up to 5 children under 16 add $8 each, inside the $430 ceiling. Every eligible claimant gets 26 weeks. A worker whose best quarter paid $6,000 is on line 201 of the schedule: $250 a week, $6,500 over 26 weeks.
Example Calculation
Let's review the inputs that set unemployment benefits in Maryland.
Maryland uses its own benefit formula from state law rather than a general 50%-of-wage estimate. Enter the exact quarter/base-period wage and eligibility fields requested by the calculator; the required inputs differ by state and cannot be reconstructed safely from median household income.
Result: Published maximum weekly amount: $430. Current maximum duration: 26 weeks. These are ceilings, not a typical award; the calculator above applies Maryland's source-backed formula to your own wage history, and only the state agency determines eligibility.

Our editorial standardsFrequently Asked Questions
How much is unemployment in Maryland?
Between $50 and $430 a week, read from the statutory schedule by your highest quarter's wages. $6,000 in your best quarter gives $250 a week; the $430 maximum starts at $10,296.01 in a quarter.
Does Maryland pay more if I have children?
Yes: $8 a week for each child under 16 you support, up to 5 children, as long as the total stays at or below $430. With 2 children, the $6,000-quarter example becomes $266 a week.
How long does Maryland unemployment last?
26 weeks for every eligible claim: Labor & Employment §8-808 sets total benefits at 26 times the weekly amount, with the child allowance paid on top for each of those weeks.
